Spotlight on women in science
On International Women's Rights Day, CNRS Images features the women who are advancing research at the highest level, in all scientific fields.
Women are now involved in every scientific field after being invisible for so many years or working on the periphery in this male-dominated world. In the laboratory as well as in the field, women have been involved in all areas, and each year are at the forefront of major discoveries and innovations, like Françoise Combes, an astrophysicist specialising in black holes and winner of the 2020 CNRS gold medal. Whether it's physics, biology, philosophy or mathematics, today many women are making significant advances in research and becoming role models for future generations, ensuring science can continue its long journey towards gender equality. Here you can discover profiles and images of these very diverse scientists, often with fascinating backgrounds.
CNRS Images,
Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
