Creating a model of Gibraltar to reveal ocean dynamics
On the Coriolis platform, a 3D model of the Strait of Gibraltar provides a better understanding of ocean circulation and the influence of local phenomena on exchanges between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, in the context of climate change.
Au sein du Laboratoire des écoulements géophysiques et industriels (Legi), cette maquette des fonds marins du détroit de Gibraltar à l'échelle 1/25e réalisée en impression 3D sert à modéliser la circulation océanique et les échanges d’eaux entre Atlantique et Méditerranée. Elle offre une vision précise des courants marins en simulant marées, variations de densité, salinité ou température, afin de mieux comprendre l’impact du changement climatique sur le rôle crucial de l’océan dans l’absorption du carbone.
