L'Usine Royale de Fer d'Ipanema a fonctionné tout le XIXe siècle, produisant environ 2 tonnes de fer par jour. L'usine, néanmoins, a fini par être désactivée par le Gouvernement de la République, en raison de problèmes économiques et administratifs et a cessé ses activités en 1895.
