Les fourmis "Allomerus decemarticulatus" de Guyane qui habitent exclusivement dans la plante "Hirtella physophora", construisent un piège pour capturer des insectes qui sont ensuite consommés. L'association entre cette fourmi et la plante est un mutualisme : la plante fournit un logement aux fourmis sous la forme de poches situées à la base des feuilles et les fourmis protègent en contrepartie leur plante hôte contre les insectes herbivores.
