Fluorescent Frogs ZdS#28
Series title
Zeste de scienceThe Youtube channel Zeste de science explores all aspects of scientific research, proving that even the most complicated scientific facts can be explained in less than 5 minutes, and that even the most seemingly trivial events of everyday life, if thoroughly studied, can contribute to the biggest technological advances.
Episode 28: Do you mean orange frogs, poisonous and fluorescent, really? Yes, such frogs do exist! This is what an international research team discovered in Brazil. The scientists put these so-called "pumpkin” frogs under an UV lamp to detect particular patterns when they glowed. After investigating this phenomenon, they concluded that the frogs did not shed fluorescence from their skin, but from their bones. The researchers have continued their work to find the reason for this glow and its benefits for the animal.
