In the valley of the Arc, in the upstream part of the Maurienne district in the French Savoie department, an area is particularly exposed to avalanche risk. Scientists from CNRS and IRSTA carry out surveys and sample avalanche deposits in the runout zone. Their objective is to model avalanches to understand the dynamics of flows, the formation of deposits in relation to the shape of the paths taken by the snow and their composition to better prevent risks in those mountain environments that humans modified.

Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
