The LEURRE started in 2002, the aim is to create mixed groups of cockroaches and robots and to see whether the robots can control the insects. Researchers have to isolate the cockroach pheromones and spray them on to a "dress" which covers the robot. Their task is to make the robot's chemical "dress". With this smell, the robot will be accepted by the cockroaches as one of them. Once the robot is chemically dressed with the pheromones sprayed by the researchers, it is placed among ten males in a arena of 1,50m in diameter. If the cockroaches accept the robot as one one them, they gather around it. The mixed cockroaches/robot group is sheltered from the light.

Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
