The interior delta of the Niger River, in the Mali centre, is the vastest wet area in the West-African Sahel. It is invaded by waters from the Niger or Djoliba and from the Bani, its main affluent, during the rainy season. The researchers started a tour when the fall started, in December, from the city of Djenné to Mopti.
