"Silene acaulis". Le silène acaule est une plante arcto-alpine formant des coussinets conservant chaleur et humidité, ce qui lui permet de survivre au froid hivernal et à la dessication par le vent, ici sur une plage ancienne du Spitzberg central. Cette plante est une des composantes de la toundra. Le diamètre des coussins de silène est parfois utilisé à des fins de datation (silénométrie). Longyearbyen, Isfjord, Spitzberg, Norvège.
