Al-Bad' in Saudi Arabia, the so-called ancient Midian
To date, the oldest traces of occupation on the site date back to the Neolithic period. The oasis was then occupied in the 4th and 1st millennia BC.
At the turn of the Christian era, al-Bad' was the second largest Nabataean city in northwestern Arabia. With its rock-carved tombs, this urban center located on the caravan routes must have enjoyed a wide regional influence between the Hijaz, Egypt and the southern Levant.
