Recovery of non-oxide nanopowders after spray-pyrolysis of a preceramic polymer. This polymer will first be turned into a mist, then transported into the furnace by a carrier gas. Here, the polymer will undergo thermal decomposition, allowing the ceramics to be recombined and recovered in the form of powder (the organic matter is trapped in a cold bath of liquid nitrogen). This powder is made up of silicon, carbon and nitrogen. The resulting very fine powder (less than 100 nanometres) is highly reactive, which facilitates the sintering of ceramic parts.
