Beam transport line in the NFS laboratory of SPIRAL 2
Beam transport line in the NFS (Neutrons For Science) laboratory of SPIRAL 2 (2nd generation linear radioactive ion production system), installed at the Large National Heavy Ion Accelerator (GANIL) in Caen. The protons and the deutons delivered by the SPIRAL 2 superconductive linear accelerator (LINAC) can generate extremely intense neutron beams. NFS uses these neutrons for experiments in fundamental physics and in a large number of applications. Located more than 9 m underground, SPIRAL 2 is dedicated to nuclear physics and develops applications for different areas of activity including nuclear medicine, energy, aerospace etc.
