Pour déterminer la composition moléculaire d'une protéine, celle-ci est introduite dans un spectromètre de masse de type MALDI-TOF, après dépôt sur une cible. Ici, une cible dite "anchorchip", permettant de concentrer l'échantillon sur une surface très petite, augmentant la sensibilité de l'analyse.
