Manchot papou adulte et son jeune poussin sur son nid de pierre. Base chilienne de O'Higgins, péninsule antarctique. La population mondiale de manchot papou est d'environ 298 000 individus. Il niche en petites colonies. Par rapport aux autres espèces de manchots, il a l'aire de répartition la plus vaste avec des populations installées en zone subantarctique aussi bien qu'en zone antarctique.
