Principe de l'ablation laser. Ce procédé permet de caractériser certains matériaux archéologiques, plus particulièrement dans le domaine de la numismatique, à l'aide d'un faisceau de particules. Au premier plan, fragment d'un pied de verre du XIVe siècle. Au fond, la zone étudiée grossie 100 fois où chacune des ablations ne dépasse pas 100 microns. Cette technique permet, entre autres, d'aborder les questions de provenance des métaux monayés.
