Models for cisterns
One of the activities of the CEAlex laboratory includes the study of the underground cisterns of Alexandria, in order to reconstruct the city's hydraulic system through its two millennia of history... In the 19th century, there were more than seven hundred cisterns throughout the city. Dating back to Roman, Byzantine, medieval and Ottoman times, they formed a real underground city.
This film depicts the design and manufacture of 1/20th scale models of these cisterns to obtain 3D visualization. These models which were made by Michel Coqueret are true masterpieces of precision and provide architects and archaeologists with a better and instant perception of the volume of these monuments.
