Draconids Encounter 2011
October 2011, a team at the "Institut de Mécanique Céleste et de Calcul des Éphémérides", the French ‘Institute of Celestial Mechanics and Ephemeris Calculation ' , directed by Jérémie Vaubaillon, are making the final preparations for an international campaign to observe one of the most famous meteor showers, the Draconids, from the air. No other Draconid shower outburst being forecast for another 40 years or so, Jérémie Vaubaillon and his colleagues have installed large numbers of cameras on board the CNRS ' s SAFIRE aircraft. They hope to use this unique opportunity to observe the trajectories of these meteors very precisely, to count them, and – why not? – to try and analyse their chemical composition
