Protubérance solaire active photographiée au spectrohéliographe de l'Observatoire de Paris à Meudon. Observation dans la raie H alpha de l'hydrogène, traitement fausse couleur. Cette protubérance fait environ 100 000 km de hauteur. La matière, qui est soutenue par les lignes de force du champ magnétique, est relativement froide (10 000 K) par rapport au millieu ambiant.
