Rehabilitation worksite in the Coussouls de Crau nature reserve
An oil leak occurred in the summer of 2009, the oil seeped deep into the water table.
Every week, 200 litres of oil will be pumped out of the slick for about ten years. To rehabilitate the original site, ecological engineering work is also underway. The fundamental research accompanying this project aims to better understand the natural biodegradation of hydrocarbons. The results are being applied to the remediation of industrial pollution.
CNRS Images,
