Zone recouverte de terre déposée après une pollution par hydrocarbure, durant l'été 2009 et zone témoin avec sous-sol "d'origine". Cette zone se situe dans la réserve naturelle des Coussouls de Crau, Bouches-du-Rhône, sur le site du chantier de réhabilitation SPSE (Société du pipeline sud-européen). Lors de la fuite, le pétrole s'est infiltré en profondeur jusqu'à la nappe phréatique. Les chercheurs remplacent la terre souillée par celle d'une carrière proche, très similaire à la terre de Crau, afin de permettre un retour plus rapide de la végétation typique de la steppe. Les recherches fondamentales accompagnant ce projet visent à mieux comprendre la biodégradation naturelle des hydrocarbures. Les résultats sont appliqués à la résorption d'une pollution industrielle.
