Salines de Maras au Pérou. On dénombre autour de 5 000 bassins de rétention, étagés à flanc de montagne dont les deux-tiers seulement sont encore en activité. Raclé avec de longues pelles, le sel est ramassé en petits tas, mis en sac et remonté à l'entrepôt le plus proche, ce qui suppose de gravir les pentes escarpées pour remonter à dos d'homme des sacs de 70kg.
