Barges d'orpailleurs sur le Madeira, affluent de l'Amazone, Brésil. Les alluvions dragués au fond du fleuve passent sur un plan incliné vibrant et recouvert de moquette, où les paillettes d'or s'accrochent. Les orpailleurs campent sur d'autres barges ou sur les rives du fleuve. L'usage du mercure pour amalgamer l'or pose de sérieux problèmes de pollution.
