Detection of a myosatellite cell
Detection of a myosatellite cell, on the surface of a single fiber of a mouse muscle. At the top, the blue staining shows all the nuclei present either inside or outside the fiber. At the bottom, the green staining shows the specific expression of the Pax7 protein in the nucleus of a myosatellite cell present on the surface of the fiber. The capacity of skeletal muscles to undergo regeneration depends on skeletal muscle stem cells, called myosatellite cells. Upon muscle injury, myosatellite cells undergo activation, proliferate, differentiate and fuse with each other to form new fibers.
