Panneau architectural provenant du monoptère de Sicyone
Rectangular architectural panel (metope) from the monopteros of Sicyon, a Greek city on the Peloponnese. The Dioscuri Castor and his cousins (the sons of Aphareus) are represented here leading a herd of cows, stolen from Arcadia in Greece. Painted inscriptions indicated the names of these figures. This metope is held at the Archaeological Museum of Delphi in Greece. It is one of the pieces studied as part of an investigation into the significance of gender differences in Ancient Greece between the 8th and 4th century BCE.
