In 1938, during the International Cancer Week and the fortieth anniversary of the discovery of radium, physicist Jean Perrin delivered a speech in Marie Curie's garden at the Radium Institute.
Using the example of Pierre and Marie Curie's discovery of radium and its therapeutic application against cancer, he stressed the importance of selfless scientific research and called for donations.
