Métallisation d'échantillons isolants, par pulvérisation cathodique de platine, en vue de leur observation au microscope électronique à balayage (MEB). Tout échantillon observé dans un MEB doit en effet être conducteur : la métallisation sous vide primaire permet de déposer une fine couche métallique (ici en platine) de quelques nanomètres d’épaisseur sur l'échantillon, par décharge dans un plasma en présence de gaz argon. Les échantillons métallisés sont ainsi rendus conducteurs sous le faisceau d’électrons du MEB.
