Méristème apical caulinaire d’une Arabette des dames
Shoot apical meristem (on the stem) of thale cress, arabidopsis thaliana, observed using fluorescence confocal microscopy. The cluster of cells in the centre are stem cells, whereas those around the periphery are able to differentiate to form what will later become flowers. These observations are made in vivo. Practical experiments enhance our understanding of the mechanisms responsible for flower development.
