Raphaèle Herbin, lauréate de la médaille de l’innovation CNRS 2017

Raphaèle Herbin, mathematician, one of the winners of the 2017 CNRS Medal for Innovation. Director of the Marseille Institute of Mathematics since 2014 and a professor at Aix-Marseille university, she specialises in the numerical analysis of partial differential equations. She has always enjoyed creating links with other disciplines such as biology, chemistry and mechanics in order to find industrial and societal applications for the digital modelling and simulation algorithms she develops. Recently, this has led to collaboration with the French Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) to develop new staggered mesh finite volume solvers that are suitable for fluid mechanics and which enable high-performance nuclear safety calculations.

CNRS Images,

Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
