Using a portable grinder to take samples from the surface of a rock polished by glaciers on the Jardin de Talèfre, a rocky outcrop on the Talèfre glacier in the Mont-Blanc massif in France, in September 2016. The aim of taking these samples was to determine how the position of glaciers in the Mont-Blanc massif had changed since the end of the last great glaciation, approximately 10,000 years ago. The purpose was to ascertain whether these glaciers had ever been smaller than they are at present, when they are in sharp decline due to global warming. The mission was part of the Mont-Blanc VIP project monitoring the speed of processes controlling morphological and environmental changes in the Mont-Blanc massif.

Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
