Un échantillon de couches minces d'oxyde de zinc, inséré dans une cellule, est installé dans un appareil de mesure de l'effet Hall à haute température et haute impédance. L'objectif est de mesurer la résistivité, la concentration de porteurs de charge et leur mobilité. Les échantillons étudiés sont des semiconducteurs à grand gap (ou à large bande interdite) et des oxydes.
