Fragments de chailles non roulées. Les chailles sont des concrétions siliceuses présentes dans certains calcaires. Des zones d'argiles à chailles sont observables en divers endroits de la forêt de Chailluz, près de Besançon. Les argiles y résultent de la décarbonatation complète des roches calcaires. Les chailles, insolubles, n'ont ainsi pas été dégradées.
