Cette machine est utilisée pour analyser le sédiment emballant les organismes fossiles trouvés au Gabon. Sur un site fossilifère gabonais, ont été découverts dans des sédiments vieux de 2,1 milliards d'années, des macrofossiles multicellulaires complexes et organisés.
