Rio Gallegos, la capitale de la province de Santa Cruz qui a connu une croissance récente grâce aux découvertes d'hydrocarbures dans son sous-sol. Fondée en 1885, elle compte un peu moins de 80 000 habitants. Le vent issu des masses d'air froid antarctique règne sans partage dans les rues, grâce au plan orthogonal tiré au cordeau, qui apparaît bien sur la photographie.
