La ponte d'un oursin "Sphaerechinus granularis" est provoquée artificiellement. Injection d'un produit qui provoque la ponte, l'oursin est positionné ensuite au dessus d'un bocal d'eau de mer où il libère ses gamètes. Une femelle produit des millions d'ovocytes transparents, très pratiques pour les biologistes notamment dans la recherche contre le cancer, cette espèce marine est utilisée comme modèle d'étude.
