Les simulations numériques sont capables aujourd'hui de reproduire certaines caractéristiques de l'onde de choc planétaire. A droite de la figure, on distingue un "tube" de fonction de distribution d'ions en amont, qui, à la traversée de l'onde de choc, se transforme en deux populations en aval (à gauche) : un "anneau" et un "tube" hélicoidal élargi, caractérisant un chauffage. Ce genre de simulations se révèle constiter un outil fort précieux et maintenant indispensable à l'étude de telles structures.
