Dismountable rest chair, photographed on June 15th, 1922. This rest chair designed for the beach or countryside had the special charac¬teristic of being completely dismoun¬table into small elements that could easily fit inside a travel bag, a suitcase or be tied up by a small strap to form a compact package. The backrest and seat’s fabric could also be used for its transportation. The lightweight and elegant chair was made up of two pieces of fabric: the longer one formed the backrest and seat, while the smaller one reinforced the seat section. The patent filed by Jean-Marie Congin on June 21st, 1923, was granted on December 22nd, 1923, and published on March 25th, 1924. He explained how it worked: “Two pieces of fabric are stretched on a frame of horizontal and vertical crossbars. They can then be assem¬bled with four tapered legs using metal corner pieces and one or more clamping sleeves.” Office national des recherches scientifiques et industrielles et des inventions. Extract from the book Inventions 1915-1939 by Luce Lebart.

Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
