Spotted wing drosophila, a pest of small fruit
Drosophila suzukii is an invasive and damaging fly species native to Southeast Asia, which can devastate up to 80% of a raspberry or cherry field.
While fruit flies usually lay their eggs in decaying fruit, this fly lays its eggs in fruit that is still standing. Scientists are seeking to gain a better understanding of how it works, particularly its winter cycle. The aim is to provide farmers with better tools and information.
This report was produced and financed as part of the "Sciences Avec et Pour la Société" call for projects (SAPS).
CNRS Images,
Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
