New prospects in autism

Since autism was described for the first time by Kanner in 1943, the criteria used to define the symptoms have evolved considerably. An Inserm study has estimated that the rate of autism in the population is 27 cases for every 10,000 people.
A genetic basis, while not explaining everything, seems ever more likely. Furthermore, modern imaging tools are beginning to bring answers to certain dysfunctions in the perception of emotions.
Other researchers are proposing innovative techniques to activate neural networks which are the basis for communication. Indeed, autistic patients can make progress at any age, which offers hope for those with the condition.
