Fifty years of computing in Grenoble

One of the very first computer science and applied mathematics laboratories in France, the IMAG, was created in Grenoble. Fifty years later, in November 2002, in conjunction with all the partners of the Grenoble computing community (universities, institutes, industry, etc.), the IMAG commemorated its founding. The work of various laboratories is presented on this occasion in five video clips:

The magic tabletop, a touchable tabletop with video response, developed at the CLIPS laboratory (Communication langagière et interaction personne système).

Lingual electro-stimulation, a technique developed at the TIMC laboratory (Techniques d'imagerie, modélisation et cognition) which makes it possible to guide movements during surgical operations using a device that the surgeon holds in the mouth and controls with the tongue.

3D echography, a technique studied in the TIMC lab and used in surgery, through which 3D data are collected using an echographic probe and two stereoscopic infra-red cameras. The resulting data enable the visualization of bone shape and the design of more accurate prostheses.

The Visurep jacket (TIMC), an individual respiratory sensing device. One of its potential applications is respiratory rehabilitation.

Seeing the word, a technology developed at the ICP laboratory (Institut de la communication parlée). Real data collected from a person's face makes it possible to create virtual clones of human beings and to synthesize speech.
