Mysterious island
The center of the earth is essentially composed of molten iron. The rotation of the earth produces movement in this molten mass which conducts electricity, thus generating the earth's magnetic field. Scientists have established that this magnetic field has frequently reversed itself over time. Ancient lava flows provide very valuable evidence for the history of the earth's magnetic field and for continental drift.
