Permafrost and climate change
With climate change and rising temperatures, permafrost is thawing and filling with water, which can lead to landslides. This could threaten the populations of Alaska's Eklutna region.
In the field, scientists are tracking the presence of molards, dome-shaped piles of stone formed by the melting of ice- and sediment-rich boulders. Their presence in large numbers in the landslide is an indicator of permafrost degradation. This report was produced and funded as part of the "Sciences Avec et Pour la Société" (SAPS) call for projects.
