"Métal" working group of the Chantier scientifique Notre-Dame de Paris
The "Métal" working group is one of the 8 groups set up for the chantier scientifique Notre-Dame de Paris.
The purpose is to support the restoration of the cathedral after the 2019 fire, but also to improve our knowledge of the building and the architectural heritage in general. The "Métal" WG is studying the architectural metal elements uncovered by the restoration of the building. The aim is to assess the impact of the fire and the possibilities of reuse, but also to better understand the architectural role of these elements, medieval construction techniques and the supply channels for the materials. The scientific project is coordinated by the Ministry of Culture and the CNRS in collaboration with the public establishment in charge of the conservation and restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris.
CNRS Images,
Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
