Membrane ou "boudin" de dialyse plongé dans un grand volume de solution aqueuse. La membrane contient des pores qui laissent passer le solvant et les molécules dont la masse molaire est plus petite que 10 000 g/mol par exemple. Le bécher est posé sur un agitateur magnétique qui permet d'homogénéiser la concentration dans le bain et d'accélérer la diffusion à travers la membrane. La dialyse permet de purifier un polymère en éliminant des molécules de faible masse molaire.
