Le dispositif permet d'étudier les bases neuronales du traitement de l'information olfactive chez l'homme. L'électroencéphalographie permet notamment d'identifier de façon très précise dans le temps (à quelques millisecondes près) le moment d'occurrence d'un processus cognitif, par exemple l'attribution d'un label verbal à un odorant.
