Le volcan Misti (environ 6500 m) domine la ville d'Arequipa au sud du Pérou. La forme très régulière de cet appareil, évoquant le Mont Fuji au Japon, est typique d'un volcan formé le long d'une zone de subduction. Ici, il s'agit de la subduction de l'océan Pacifique (plaque Nazca) sous la bordure continentale de l'Amérique du Sud. Arequipa (sud du Pérou).
