Eclipse flight
On August 11 1999 a total eclipse of the sun was visible to the north of France. In order to take pictures of it in spite of the expected bad weather, CNRS, INSU, and IGN decided to hire a Mystère 20 plane and install cameras on board to film the eclipse from above the clouds. Taking off from Creil, the plane flew over Dieppe and made several passes along the central track of the eclipse, gathering images of all its phases.
