Radiocristallographie de virus (étude des cristaux par rayonnement). Des micro-boucles en nylon au bout d'une tige métallique permettent de prélever un cristal de sa liqueur mère, de le tremper dans une solution cryo-protectrice, et de le plonger ensuite dans un tube contenant de l'éthane liquide pour un refroidissement rapide, ce qui préserve le pouvoir de diffraction du cristal.
