Interdisciplinary campaign to study greenhouse gases in the Frasne peat bog
The scientists try to gain a better understanding of the hydrological, biogeochemical and ecological mechanisms that control the sources, production and transfer of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in peatlands.
In these permanently water-saturated wetlands, organic matter decomposes poorly and accumulates in the form of peat. Carbon is then stored for millennia. With climate change and human activity, the functioning of these ecosystems is being disrupted, notably impacting carbon sequestration, and they tend to emit more GHGs such as carbon dioxide and methane.
CNRS Images,
Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
