1. Conditions of use of CNRS Images Media Library resources

The resources managed by CNRS Images are exhibitions, photo images and reports, films and series.

The reproduction or representation of resources visible on the CNRS Images Platform is prohibited without prior authorization from CNRS Images except for those resources covered by a Creative Commons licence.

Any new reproductions or representations must receive prior authorization from CNRS Images

Images shall not be modified without prior authorization from CNRS Images

Images shall not be used for advertising purposes or distributed to a third party without the prior agreement of CNRS Images.

2. Image reproduction and representation rights

2.1 Free use

For internal CNRS communication purposes (websites, video clips, brochures, communication products, etc.), any reproduction or representation of the images is free of charge. However, distribution may be reduced subject to the rights held by CNRS Images and the agreement of the scientists who created the images.

For uses outside the CNRS

Any reproduction intended to promote the CNRS and to highlight research carried out in CNRS laboratories may be granted free of charge after the media library has studied the request.

The promotion of the CNRS can be done in the form of:

-an interview or a portrait of scientists belonging to the CNRS or to a research unit dependent on the CNRS

-a scientific news item in which the CNRS is involved, covered in the media (TV news, etc.)

-a communication or article on a research project involving the CNRS or the promotion of public research in general

The mention of the obligatory credit does not constitute a valorization.

2.2 Paid use (videos only)

For reproductions or use that gives rise to the payment of a right of reproduction or representation by the applicant, the price list on which an estimate should be based is available here.

The files ordered are sent to the applicant after receipt of the full payment that is due.

The document which sets out the general terms and conditions for the sale of film extracts must be signed by applicants before the ordered files can be sent.

For photos, reproduction authorizations are exclusively reserved for the promotion of CNRS activities and are therefore never subject to a fee.

Any reproduction or use of videos not related to CNRS activities will require payment of a reproduction or representation fee by the user (see rates). However, distribution may be reduced subject to the rights held by CNRS Images and the agreement of the scientists who created the images.

For videos, we will only process requests sent at least 10 business days before the desired delivery date (excluding CNRS research news or partnerships). In case of invoicing, please allow for an additional delay.

For requests for film extracts, the document setting out the general conditions for the sale of extracts or reproduction and distribution rights for works must be signed by the applicant before the ordered files are sent.

The ordered files are sent to the applicant after receipt of the full payment due.

3. Required information

Any resource distributed, reproduced or used must bear the mandatory indication indicated on the platform or transmitted when downloading or sending orders.

For uses that promote the CNRS, the following mentions are mandatory:

-Interview or portrait of a CNRS scientist: the CNRS affiliation must be mentioned next to the scientist's name (photo and video captions). For videos, in addition the laboratory/UMR of affiliation and its supervisory bodies must be mentioned in the credits or in the description on social media.

-For an interview or portrait of a UMR scientist: the CNRS must be cited as the supervisor of the laboratory and in the text, commentary, credits or caption explaining the research.

-for a communication or article on a research project involving the CNRS or the promotion of public research in general: the CNRS must be mentioned

4. Prices and payment

CNRS Images reserves the right to modify its prices. Prices should be paid in full in a single payment when ordering. All orders are invoiced and payable in euros. The current VAT rate will be applied.

Payments can only be made by bank transfer.

5. Acceptance by the Buyer

The Buyer expressly agrees to and accepts the present general terms and conditions of sale and prices and declares and acknowledges having perfect knowledge of them. The Buyer therefore waives the right to refer to any contradictory documents in this context particularly his/her own general terms and conditions of purchase. The act of purchase entails acceptance of the present general terms and conditions of sale.

The present terms and conditions may be modified at any time without notice.

6. Sending proof of publication

Proof of publication, use or distribution of the images must be sent to the ‘Médiathèque’ within two months of publication, use or distribution (copy of the magazine or book, website URL, PDF mock-ups of the panels for an exhibition, file or link to the film's broadcast site...).

Please inform us if the images ordered are not used.

CNRS Images,

Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
