Échantillon usagé, dit «post-mortem», d’andalousite
Échantillon usagé, dit «post-mortem», d’andalousite, céramique réfractaire présentant une excellente résistance aux chocs thermiques et supportant les très hautes températures (jusqu’à 2000°C). Cet échantillon a été utilisé en laboratoire comme creuset dans le but d’étudier ses phénomènes d’altération aux oxydes liquides ou laitiers (en bleu sur l’image). L’andalousite est utilisée dans les industries métallurgique (acier, aluminium), cimentière, céramique et verrière, où elle est le plus souvent utilisée sous forme de briques réfractaires.
